Results of First RCRA Compliance Inspection

On July 8 and 9, 1999, Argonne National Laboratory-East received a site visit from a USEPA RCRA inspection team. As part of their comprehensive inspection agenda, the USEPA RCRA inspection team performed a review of ANL-E's Affirmative Procurement Program (per RCRA Section 6002). The review of the ANL-E Affirmative Procurement Program went well. The USEPA inspectors met with representatives of the ANL-E Vehicle Maintenance group. The ANL-E Vehicle Maintenance representative assisted the USEPA inspector in completing the Inspector Checklist that relates to on-site motor vehicle maintenance. The USEPA inspector reviewed the information provided by ANL-E, and interviewed the ANL-E Vehicle Maintenance representatives regarding purchase activities. In addition, the USEPA inspectors provided ANL-E with a Facility Questionnaire and matrix to be completed by ANL-E's Recycling Coordinator. The completed Facility Questionnaire along with supporting documentation is to be sent to the USEPA. The USEPA will identify any issues or concerns regarding the ANL-E Affirmative Procurement Program in the their final report. The USEPA representatives stated that the ANL-E RCRA program is a well run program and did not identify any issues or concerns during the closeout meeting.
