Welcome to the HSS Office of Technology. Whether you are a member of the DOE community looking for assistance, a federal agency seeking information on the latest breakthrough in security technologies, or a security professional seeking to find out what this unique part of HSS is all about, we are committed to meet your expectations.
The HSS security technology program provides a single resource for rapidly sharing innovative security technology solutions and lessons learned across the widely varied Departmental missions. There are two primary drivers behind technology development, deployment and integration efforts within HSS. The first is based on performance whereby technology is required to address and mitigate vulnerabilities, usually attributable to changes in adversary threat capabilities or tactics. The second driver is based on economics. In this case technology is used as an alternative to traditional security practices with unsustainable annual recurring costs. Programmatically we work with the full cooperation of the host program offices and operational sites to ensure that the technologies deployed are safe, effective, and thoroughly integrated with site operations. Our nationally recognized program has made significant contributions to numerous facilities within the NNSA nuclear weapons complex, Environmental Management sites such as the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant, critical electrical infrastructure substations for the Bonneville Power Administration, Fossil Energy's Strategic Petroleum Reserve, Office of Science state-of-the-art research laboratories, and Nuclear Energy programs at the Idaho National Laboratory. In addition to the widespread customer base within the Department, our staff is fully integrated into several interagency and international security technology forums providing access to millions of dollars in security technology research, development and lessons learned.
I invite you to learn more about our mission and accomplishments by exploring the links on the webpage, including the Security Technology Information Archive and the Technology Deployment Integration Center, and to contact us directly if we can better serve your needs.
